Honda Sensing® | Bill Page Honda | Falls Church, VA

2019 Honda Ridgeline | Bill Page Honda | Falls Church, VA
With many Honda models, you will find that you with receive Honda Sensing® either standard or as an available option. But what exactly is this technology? Honda Sensing® is a suite of advanced safety and driver-assistance technologies that work to help you be more aware of your surroundings while you’re driving. Here, we take a look at the specific innovations that are included in this suite.

Collision Mitigation Braking System™

The Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) detects potential front-end collisions with obstacles in front of you, such as vehicles or pedestrians. It does so by utilizing a radar transmitter sitting on your Honda’s front grille. When a potential collision is detected, this system will send you audio and visual warnings to encourage you to apply the brakes. If you ignore these alerts, it will apply the brakes for you.

Road Departure Mitigation System

Whether you’re driving in between double yellow lines or single white lines, the Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM) will detect these road markings and help keep your Honda in its respective lane. It does so thanks to a windshield-mounted camera. If it finds you leaving the road, the system gives you a visual cue, vibrates your steering wheel, and uses an audio cue to keep you aware. This system works when you’re traveling between 45 mph and 90 mph.

Adaptive Cruise Control

When you turn on your cruise control, you can rest easy that you will maintain the proper distance between your vehicle and the car in front of you thanks to Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). It will keep track of the car in front of you, mirroring its speed so you remain a safe distance behind it.

Lane Keeping Assist System

Stay in the middle of a detected lane with the Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS). This system is similar to the RDM system and actually uses the same windshield-mounted camera as it to help your vehicle stay in the middle of a detected lane.

*CMBS™ cannot detect all objects ahead and may not detect a given object; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed, and other factors. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. System designed to mitigate crash forces. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.

Road Departure Mitigation only alerts drivers when lane drift is detected without a turn signal in use and can apply mild steering torque to assist driver in maintaining proper lane position and/or brake pressure to slow the vehicle’s departure from a detected lane. RDM may not detect all lane markings or lane departures; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed, road conditions, and other factors. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.

ACC cannot detect all objects ahead and may not detect a given object; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed, and other factors. ACC should not be used in heavy traffic, poor weather, or on winding roads. ACC only includes a limited braking function. Driver remains responsible for slowing or stopping the vehicle to avoid a collision.

LKAS only assists driver in maintaining proper lane position when lane markings are identified without a turn signal in use and can only apply mild steering torque to assist. LKAS may not detect all lane markings; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed, road conditions, and other factors. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.
