If you’re looking for a vehicle designed to enhance your daily commute, you’ve likely been looking at the compact car segment. In this competitive market, the 2019 Honda Civic and Kia Forte are undoubtedly the frontrunners. When you look at them side by side, the Civic outpaces its rivals handily.

Performance

Under the hood of the Civic, you will find one of two engine options: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque, or a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that pumps out 174 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque.

The Kia sedan only offers a single engine — a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that is paired to either a six-speed manual or an Intelligent Variable Transmission. This combo produces 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, less than the Civic’s standard engine.

Safety

When it comes to safety, Honda wins again. The Civic has a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), while the Forte has only a four-star rating1.

Every Civic comes standard with the Honda Sensing® suite of driver-assistance features. That means you get a Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™), a Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow, and a Lane Keeping Assist System, no matter what Civic model you choose2. The Kia Forte doesn’t offer Adaptive Cruise Control or a Road Departure Mitigation System.

Style

The 2019 Honda Civic offers athletic style in a compact frame and is available with more body options than Kia’s car. The Forte only comes as a sedan, whereas the Civic can be delivered as a coupe, a sedan, and a hatchback. The Civic’s added flexibility ensures that you’ll leave the lot with the type of car that best suits your needs, whether you want more cargo space or a sportier look.

In the compact car segment, the 2019 Honda Civic stands head and shoulders above its competitors. For a more detailed look at one of the most stylish, efficient, and reliable cars on the market, take a trip to Bill Page Honda and experience the Civic for yourself.

2CMBS™ cannot detect all objects ahead and may not detect a given object; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed, and other factors. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. System designed to mitigate crash forces. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.

Road Departure Mitigation only alerts drivers when lane drift is detected without a turn signal in use and can apply mild steering torque to assist driver in maintaining proper lane position and/or brake pressure to slow the vehicle’s departure from a detected lane. RDM may not detect all lane markings or lane departures; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed, road conditions, and other factors. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.

ACC cannot detect all objects ahead and may not detect a given object; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed, and other factors. ACC should not be used in heavy traffic, poor weather, or on winding roads. ACC only includes a limited braking function. Driver remains responsible for slowing or stopping the vehicle to avoid a collision.

LKAS only assists driver in maintaining proper lane position when lane markings are identified without a turn signal in use and can only apply mild steering torque to assist. LKAS may not detect all lane markings; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed, road conditions, and other factors. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.
